At 1156 PM MDT, Public reported flash flooding on the Little Tongue River in Little Tongue Canyon about 7 miles southwest of Dayton at 846 PM MDT. Emergency management and local law enforcement reported landslides on US HWY 14 southwest of Dayton in the Elk Burn Scar. Other areas southwest of Dayton over the Elk Burn Scar may experience debris flow and flash flooding. Between 0.5 and 0.8 inches of rain have fallen over the area this evening. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area overnight into Wednesday morning, which could lead to further debris flows or landslides and flooding. HAZARD...Flash flooding and landslides caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Emergency management, law enforcement and public reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...areas along the Little Tongue River. This includes people along the Little Tongue River near Dayton. People in the Dayton area near the Little Tongue should remain alert and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Obey any road closures. Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain, especially in and around these areas. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. && LAT...LON 4481 10744 4471 10729 4485 10713 4488 10726 FLASH FLOOD...OBSERVED $$ Palmquist
