The National Weather Service in Melbourne has extended the



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Southeast and East Central Volusia County in east central Florida...



* Until 215 PM EDT.



* At 1211 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated rain continues in the 

  Edgewater area. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are 

  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is occurring from 

  torrential rain that occurred this morning.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban

           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as

           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, Oak Hill, Bethune Beach, Apollo Beach.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS...



The areas affected include...

  Waters from Cape Blanco OR to Pt. St. George CA from 10 to 60 

  nm...

  Waters from Florence to Cape Blanco OR from 10 to 60 nm...



At 950 AM PDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable

of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were

located along a line extending from 34 nm west of Cape Arago to 55 nm

west of Pt. St. George, moving northeast at 35 knots.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 

knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine 

warning may eventually be required when these storms reach the 

nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before 

these storms arrive. Also, these storms have a low probability, 

around a 10 percent chance, of producing waterspouts, which could 

damage or capsize vessels. 



Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or nearest law enforcement

agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service

forecast office.
