Rapid ice growth is occurring on the western basin of Lake Erie. Ice developed quickly on Thursday west of the Lake Erie Islands. Temperatures will be in the teens overnight and ice is expected to rapidly expand between the Lake Erie Islands and Cleveland through Friday morning. Southwesterly winds will ramp up to 15 to 25 knots on Friday. This could result in shifting of the newly formed ice. Rapid ice expansion could trap vessels traveling on the western basin of Lake Erie. Ice drift is also possible on Friday as winds increase out of the southwest.
