The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Big Island Leeward Waters...

  Big Island Southeast Waters...

  Big Island Windward Waters...



* Until 800 AM HST.



* At 558 AM HST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing

  waterspouts was located near South Point, or 12 nm south of

  Discovery Harbour, moving northeast at 30 knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally 

           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly 

           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  Cape Kumukahi, FAD Buoy SS, FAD Buoy A, South Point, FAD Buoy KH,

  and FAD Buoy RN.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding

downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are

wearing life jackets.
