The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Big Island Windward Waters...



* Until 215 PM HST.



* At 1238 PM HST, severe thunderstorms capable of producing 

  waterspouts were located east of Big Island along a line extending 

  from 28 nm northeast of FAD Buoy HK to near Ookala, moving 

  southeast at 15 knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally 

           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly 

           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  FAD Buoy HK, FAD Buoy E, FAD Buoy D, FAD Buoy G, and Cape Kumukahi.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding

downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are

wearing life jackets.



Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily

overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor

immediately.



Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the

open water, stay below deck if possible.
