The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  The island of Maui in Maui County



* Until 1030 AM HST.



* At 716 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over east Maui. Rain was 

  falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain is 

  falling over the Kaupo area. Additional heavy showers are expected 

  through the morning. Flash flooding is ongoing.



  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,

           properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road

           closures possible in some areas. Landslides are

           possible in steep terrain.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Kipahulu, Kaupo, Nahiku, Hana, Keanae, Haleakala National Park, 

  Wailua and Hamoa.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even 

if they are currently dry.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 1030 AM HST if flooding 

persists.

The areas affected include...

  Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line 0-20 nm...

  Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line 20-60 nm...

  Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet 20-60 nm...



At 146 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable

of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These

thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 14 nm east of

Daytona Beach Shores to 37 nm northeast of Apollo Beach to 53 nm east

of Playalinda Beach, moving southeast at 10 knots.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher

waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor

immediately until these storms pass.



Frequent cloud to water lightning is occurring with these storms. If

caught on the open water stay below deck and, if possible, avoid

ungrounded metal objects. Remember, lightning can strike beyond 10

miles away from a thunderstorm.
