* Special Marine Warning for...

  Lake Pontchartrain...



* Until 1145 AM CDT.



* At 1046 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing

  waterspouts was located near Lake Pontchartrain/Lake Maurepas,

  moving north at 10 knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage 

           vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  The Mid Point Of The Causeway Bridge, Lake Pontchartrain/Lake

  Maurepas, and Lacombe.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never try to navigate near them.

Move to safe harbor or shelter immediately until the threat passes.

A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas...

  Lake Maurepas...



At 1052 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a shower, capable of

producing winds to around 30 knots and weak waterspouts. This shower

was located over Lake Maurepas, moving northeast at 20 knots.



Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots and locally higher

waves. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this

activity passes.



Brief, weak waterspouts are possible with this activity. Remain on

alert in case warnings are issued for waterspout development.
