The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Coastal waters from Surf City to Cape Fear NC out 20 nm...

  Waters from Surf City NC to Little River Inlet SC from 20 to 60

  NM...



* Until 530 AM EDT.



* At 428 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing

  waterspouts were located along a line extending from near 10 Mile

  Rocks to near Sheepshead Rock. The severe thunderstorms were nearly

  stationary.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally 

           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly 

           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  10 Mile Boxcars, Liberty Ship, Dallas Rock, Masonboro Sea Buoy,

  Harris Reef, 10 Mile Rocks, Kure Beach Point, School House Reef,

  Sheepshead Rock, Buoy Off Carolina Beach, Topsail Boxcars, Wr2,

  Dredge Wreck, 5 Mile Boxcars, South Masonboro Island, and Carolina

  Beach.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.

If caught on the open water, prepare for deteriorating conditions.

Make sure you and your crew are wearing properly fitted life jackets.



Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily

overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor

immediately.
