At 141 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicates heavy rain has exited the warned area this morning. However, thunderstorms earlier this evening produced between 4 and locally 7.5 inches of rain in eastern Surry County, western Stokes County, and southwest Patrick County. The heaviest rainfall has occurred in the Ararat River basin, which is approaching a stage of 24 feet as of 130 AM. Both Surry County and Stokes County Emergency Management staff reported that severe flooding is occurring, with Big Creek observed well out of its banks and flowing across both Old Asbury Road and Frans Road in the Westfield area. Flooding is likely also occurring along Meadow Branch and Pinch Gut Creek. Numerous swift water rescues have occurred, and many rivers and creeks continue to rise as runoff collects in the waterways.
