...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 445 PM EDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR SOUTHERN YORK COUNTY AND THE CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS AND
THE CITY OF POQUOSON...

At 202 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2
and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to
3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
         flash flooding.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban
         areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Newport News, Patrick Henry Field, Christopher Newport University,
  Tabb, Denbigh, Beaconsdale, Lee Hall, Oyster Point, Oriana,
  Menchville and Newport News Golf Course.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
