...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1115 AM EDT THIS
MORNING FOR FRANKLIN AND SOUTHEASTERN ROANOKE COUNTIES AND THE CITY
OF ROANOKE AND THE CITY OF SALEM...

At 750 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that
heavy rain has exited the warned area, leaving only light to moderate
rainfall. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen overnight.
Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 inch are possible in the warned
area through 11 AM. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations thathe expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1
hour.  will experience flash flooding include...
  Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, Ferrum and
  Penhook.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
  Back Creek, Blackwater River, Big Chestnut Creek and Big Bear Rock
  Branch.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
