The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a



* Special Marine Warning for...

  Kaiwi Channel...

  Maui County Leeward Waters...

  Pailolo Channel...



* Until 900 PM HST.



* At 703 PM HST, a strong thunderstorm was located 17 nm northwest of

  FAD Buoy MC, or 26 nm west of Lanai Airport, moving northeast at 15

  knots.



  HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and 

           suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  Kaumalapau Harbor and FAD Buoy CC.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding

downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are

wearing life jackets.



Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the

open water, stay below deck if possible.

Areas of dense fog with visibilities 1 nautical mile or less will

continue through Saturday morning. Visibility will improve after 

10 AM Saturday.



Mariners should be prepared for abrupt changes in visibility.

Reduce speeds and be on the lookout for exposed rocks and other

vessels, including large ships in shipping lanes. Use radar or GPS

navigation if available, and consider remaining in harbor if such

equipment is unavailable.
