...STORM FORCE CONDITIONS BECOMING MORE LIKELY OVER THE EASTERN

GULF OF ALASKA AND NEAR SHORE WATERS OF SOUTHEAST ALASKA 

THURSDAY...



Forecasters are closely watching a developing storm force low 

that will be located near fifty six north latitude and one forty 

five west longitude early Thursday morning, moving quickly into 

the northeastern Gulf of Alaska by Friday morning. South to 

southwesterly winds at storm force with gusts potentially to 

hurricane force are becoming more probable in the eastern Gulf of 

Alaska on Thursday. These winds will generate large southwesterly 

seas, reaching 35 ft to potentially 40 ft Thursday over the 

eastern Gulf of Alaska and near shore waters of southeast Alaska. 

Mariners should make ready for storm force conditions from the 

southwest by Thursday. Wind and seas begin to diminish Friday as 

the low begins to weaken over the far northeastern Gulf of Alaska.

A low pressure system moving through the coastal waters will bring

light to moderate rain, gusty winds, and a slight potential for 

thunderstorms now through Wednesday night. If a thunderstorm 

develops, lightning, accumulating small hail, and locally 

stronger winds are possible.
