......THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL CONTINUES INTO THURSDAY AFTERNOON...



Thunderstorms continue to develop across the eastern Gulf, with 

the highest activity focused along the Chichagof and Baranof 

coast. While these storms are producing some lightning, the 

primary threat is erratic gusty winds of 15 to 25 knots and heavy

rainfall reducing visibility below 3 NM. Mariners navigating Cape

Decision to Cross Sound should be aware of this threat and be 

ready for gusty winds. Thunderstorm activity should diminish 

later Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Maricopa County in south central Arizona...

  Pinal County in southeastern Arizona...



* Until 115 PM MST.



* At 1009 AM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing

  heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is

  0.5 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to

  1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing

  or expected to begin shortly.



  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing

           flash flooding.



  SOURCE...Radar indicated.



  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,

           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Estrella, Sonoran National Monument, Estrella Sailport, Bosque and

  Mobile.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1245 PM MDT THIS

AFTERNOON FOR SOUTH CENTRAL EDDY COUNTY...



At 1147 AM MDT, the public reported water flowing over roadways

leading to road closures. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have

fallen near Carlsbad and upstream in Dark Canyon Draw. Water from

Dark Canyon Draw will continue flowing towards Carlsbad. Although

rainfall has ended, flooding is ongoing.



HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.



SOURCE...Public reported.



IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,

         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor

         drainage and low-lying areas.



Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Carlsbad, Carlsbad North, Avalon, Whites City, Cavern City Air

  Terminal, Living Desert State Park, Otis and Lake Avalon.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.



Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.



Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.

Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a

matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.



Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law

enforcement and request they pass this information to the National

Weather Service when you can do so safely.
