A system will bring periods of gusty winds along with a good

chance of showers and a few thunderstorms over the Upper Texas

Coastal waters between Matagorda Bay and Galveston this afternoon.

Winds of 15-20 knots, with gusts up to 25 knots are expected. Near

or within any heavy shower or thunderstorm, winds could gust over

30 knots. A waterspout cannot be ruled out over the Gulf. 



For the Gulf waters near Galveston, the bulk of the showers and

isolated thunderstorms may not arrive until this evening.

* Special Marine Warning for...

  Coastal waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel TX out 20

  NM...

  Waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel TX from 20 to 60

  NM...



* Until 130 PM CDT.



* At 1255 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing

  waterspouts was located near Matagorda Island 607, moving northeast

  at 45 knots.



  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots.



  SOURCE...Radar.



  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally 

           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly 

           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.



* Locations impacted include...

  Brazos 490, Matagorda Island 557, Tabs Buoy W, Matagorda Island

  607, Brazos 548, and Matagorda Jetty.

Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes.



Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily

overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor

immediately.
